Detach & Reset on a Tile Roof
Most Valley roofs are tile. Tile is also where this job goes wrong most often — and where the damage shows up two monsoons later, not on the day.
Detach and reset on tile costs more and takes longer than on shingle, because tile has to be lifted and set aside rather than walked on, mounts must go back into the correct course with new flashing, and some breakage is unavoidable. Anyone quoting tile at the same rate as shingle either has not seen the roof or is planning to walk on it.

What actually goes wrong on tile
Three failures account for nearly everything we get called back to fix on other people’s work:
- Mounts re-set into the wrong tile course, so the flashing no longer sheds water where the tile overlaps
- Broken tile replaced with a colour or profile that does not match, or not replaced at all
- Foot traffic damage away from the array — cracked tile the crew walked over getting to the work
Concrete, clay and the profile problem
Valley roofs run concrete tile in flat, low and high profiles, plus clay on older and higher-end homes. Replacement tile has to match profile and colour, and on a roof past about twenty years old the original profile may no longer be made.
We count and photograph tile condition before we start, so if matching stock is going to be a problem you know before the array is off rather than after.
Underlayment is the part nobody talks about
On an Arizona tile roof the tile routinely outlives the underlayment beneath it by decades. If the array is coming off anyway, that is the cheapest moment in the roof’s life to have the underlayment under it inspected — the panels are already down and the tile is already lifted.

Will you break tiles?
Some breakage on a tile roof is realistic, not a failure — tile is brittle and twenty-year-old tile more so. What matters is that it is counted, matched and replaced. We photograph before and after so the count is not a matter of opinion.
Can solar panels be mounted on a tile roof properly?
Yes, with tile-specific mounting hardware and flashing designed for the profile. The failure mode is not the panels, it is a mount installed with the wrong flashing for the tile it sits in.
Is tile detach and reset more expensive than shingle?
Yes. More time per panel, tile handling and replacement, and more care getting around the roof. We will tell you the difference for your specific roof rather than quoting a flat per-panel rate that ignores it.
